Reformation Particles are substances at the sub-atomic level which enable a physical being to shift and change size at will.
How they work[]
Reformation Particles are mostly present/encased within special devices and/or machines which are durable enough to hold their volatile structure, as they are noted to be extremely reactive with most elements, whether in pure or molecular form. However, inert gases and vacuums are an exception, thus they are usually utilised in these devices to contain the particles.
True to their name, these particles generate a unique meta field around their user, reforming their organic cells and tissue to larger or smaller sizes. Due to the reduction or expansion in cell size, their body mass, surface area to volume ratio and weight increases proportionally and appropriately to their size change. How the particles do this is unknown, though possible theories range from rearranging the very building blocks of matter, to amplifying the growth expansion rate for individual cells by supplying copious amounts of latent energy from the environment, using the particles as a catalyst which speeds up the process.
Generally, for the procedure to take place, one must have equipped upon his body a Dimensional Ratio Restabilizer device, which when activated reforms his physical being to the settings inputted on said device. An alternative is to inject Reformation Particles within the individual's bodily systems, of which isn't recommended due to the complications of the surgical methodology required; however, alien beings like the Ultramen have natural steroids which act as Reformation Particles.
Thus, such devices are outlawed in consideration of the subject's personal safety and concern for proper bodily functions before and after the process, and is a main reason why civilizations possessing natural resizing abilities are frowned upon by other races across the galaxy.
Downsides[]
As stated above, the usage of Reformation Particles poses a risk an individual's physical being, and which may cause rapid deceleration of cell growth if handled incorrectly, thus causing a user to experience a phenomenon of which is best described as "collapsing in" on one's self.
Another downfall is the potential hazard of not being able to handle the size change; this is commonly seen in users tumbling over a massive expansion in size, due to their body not being able to adjust to the rapid changes. Training to balance one's centre of gravity can overcome this disability, however.
